Its 3am on a cold dark night in October 2016. The forests of central Europe are as black as the night itself, but tonight is the culmination of years of experimentation to get to this point: shooting the music video for the Crying Vessel Killing Time EP. “We did it as an art concept,” Bandleader Slade Templeton reveals, “But it suddenly caught on and had over 30,000 views on YouTube the first month.” Fast forward to now and we find Crying Vessel have released their fourth album and moving on with tours across Europe and the USA. (Crying Vessel started out as a solo project from Slade Templeton, who supported with live drummer Basil Oberli, began making 'waves' in the Post-Punk and Darkwave scenes. Since 2018, Crying Vessel has become a duo with Slade and Basil working together. Next album planned for 2019 release.)

“The nice thing about Crying Vessel’s music is that it is a blend between post-punk guitars and electro. Sometimes that blend is so successful that you barely hear the difference between the guitars and the synths. They then seem to merge. That's how they found their own sound. You can hear an influence here and there from Depeche Mode, Erasure or The Cure but overall they know how to process this in their own sound.” - Musiczine.net

“Comparisons with The Mission, Type O Negative, and The Cure are undeniable, but Peter Steele and Robert Smith would have crept away from the intensity of "A Beautiful Curse." Above all, the lyrics move on the border of feverish delusional phenomena, and sit like a flickering surface of flashbacks and suppressed memories.” - Beat Magazine

“it’s almost scary to imagine where the project might go on the next record, because what he’s done right here [on A Beautiful Curse] is bone-chillingly mesmerizing”
The Big Takeover

“Followers of post punk and cold wave sounds will not be disappointed with of A Beautiful Curse. A Beautiful Curse sounds harsh and cool, while still melodic - and this melody brings the music of the [American/Swiss] duo closer to the tradition of gothic rock.” - Wavepress Blog

“The production is warm and fuzzed in that analog way, but also as clear and sharp as crystal. The songs mesmerize and take the listener to the darkest, but most exhilarating places.” Rebel Noise

“combining all the ingredients that made 80s wave music so successful—the typical drum sets, simple & grandiose synth melodies, bass guitar, reverberations, and a characteristic, beseeching voice that adds a layer of melancholic drama to the music.” - Witness This

“you realize how the group wears their influences on their sleeve: there’s a fair amount of Gary Numan and Joy Division on the record, territory that has been trod in recent years from newer acts like Editors and the Horrors. It’s a driving record that evokes more images of long drives and neon – but also of a need to get away.” Earthingsblog
