Treha Sektori – Acermeh

An act known for his dark, droning soundscapes created simply from his voice, breath and body, Treha Sektori is already a noted talent. His last album, ‘The Sense of Dust and Sheer’ became a highly acclaimed epic, and now the dark champion of improvised noise is back with a new collection of ambient drones.

A tape recorded live in several locations throughout 2015, ‘Acermeh’ can be seen to be more of the same minimalist recording, with five tracks of driven percussion produced by Treha Sektori beating the microphone, and looping notes becoming expansive songs.

The heavy atmospheric touches that made his last album remain, but the same brooding sounds that made it so intriguing have been toned down, leaving only the faintest scaffolding of that brilliance. Undoubtedly, ‘Acermeh’ is an impressive concoction of sounds when you consider the sole instrument involved in Treha Sektori’s own body, but the same pattern of unrelenting singular tones spiked by muffled coughs of vocal projections can only last so long, and the short release ends up feeling more like a mini-album of ideas and demos that were overlooked on his last release.

‘Saheh Fernah’ marks the exception to this disappointing trend, offering a taste of the same gothic wizardry that made is previous work so entrancing, but with four long tracks preceding it, getting there might be a challenge.
